Randal Metz
The first moment 10 year old Randal saw Lewis
Mahlmann’s production of Treasure Island at the Storybook Puppet
Theater, he knew he wanted to be a puppeteer. A Master
Puppeteer himself, Randal has a degree in Theater and Children’s
Theater from San Francisco State University. He has also been
personally trained by many famous American puppeteers: Lewis in
classical puppetry, Lettie Schubert in manipulation, Bob Baker
Marionettes of Hollywood and even by The Muppets. Randal also
runs his own theater, known as The Puppet Company, that
performs at libraries, fairs and festivals. Together, Mahlmann and
Metz have created 100 puppet shows that are still in repertory.
Randal is celebrating his 54th year working at Children’s
Fairyland, and has published four books on puppetry.
Rhonda Godwin, an accomplished actress and
puppeteer, has studied and performed in theatre and film since the
age of 17. She first studied the arts at Chabot College and College
of Marin, and later at the prestigious ACT in San Francisco. Her
stage performances have been seen in many theaters over the
years. Her favorite type of theatre was Commedia Del’Arte, the
traveling Italian theatre with a splash of improv; which was
performed at Sonoma County wineries and throughout California.
In puppetry she’s performed as such classic characters as Judy, in
Punch and Judy, as well as numerous fun-loving character
voiceover roles for multiple puppet shows. She later joined
Randal’s Puppet Company in the 90’s, and since then has worked
beside him as a Master Puppeteer and company partner. She
also entertains as The Puppet Lady, enthralling children at private
parties and events with her own puppets.
